Description
MORE DATES COMING SOON
A day of sewing and creating with Roobedo!
You will learn how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, change a needle, sew simple seams and use the different settings / feet on your machine. You will sew a sampler to see what your machine is really capable of and then you can make a lavender filled keyring to get you warmed up.
You will then start to make a lined tote bag or purse from Harris tweed. With access to a beautiful array of Harris tweed fabric you will be shown how to select, arrange, cut, sew and construct a patchwork panel that you will then make into a lined tote style bag, with cloth handles, or zip purse.
What’s so special about Harris tweed?
Harris Tweed® is made from 100% British wool, naturally renewable, biodegradable and recyclable, produced only in the Outer Hebrides it sustains specialist weaving and textile production skills throughout remote rural communities – generating sustainable employment opportunities through generations of islanders. Harris Tweed® cloth – Clo Mor (Gaelic for ‘The Big Cloth’) is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament and the only fabric produced in commercial quantities by truly traditional methods. Unusually, the wool is dyed before being spun, allowing a multitude of colours to be blended into the yarn, creating a cloth of great depth and complexity.
Maximum 6 people – plenty of room in an airy village hall.

No materials needed (unless you think you have a fabric you might like to incorporate into your design) but please bring a sewing kit (with sharp scissors) and your own sewing machine – there’s nothing like having the opportunity to use your very own machine. With a certificate in repairing and servicing sewing machines, I can give you advice on how to clean it and keep it in tip top condition too. Don’t worry, if you don’t have your own sewing machine, you can rent one for the workshop (see in options at booking).
