Description
THREE HOUR WORKSHOP – book a time that suits you and a friend for £75. All materials included.
Try your hand at crafting your own Japanese Boro and Sashiko textiles inspired by the tradition of recycling and reworking textiles. Exploring this relaxing, meditative, useful stitch you will use piece together scraps of organic cotton, denim, silk and tweed with hessian to make a panel. Ruth will then help you turn into a purse with a zip.
Ruth will guide you to select fabrics and thread and show you how to form straight and running stitch to create your own unique work. It’s very therapeutic, slowing right down, arranging pieces of beautiful fabrics before stitching into place by hand and machine to form a panel. Ruth will work with you every step of the way, offering one-to-one advice, help and inspiration with samples and references. It’s a great little project to help you connect with fabric and sewing, and the simplicity of the project enables you to get to know your sewing machine again as you make up a purse. You’re sure to enjoy this workshop producing a unique textile product and taking away a few new skills and inspiration.
Perfect for beginners and intermediate level sewers. Also suitable for kids who are interested age 12+ (please ask for more details before booking for minors).
No materials needed (unless you think you have a fabric you might like to incorporate into your design) but a sewing kit (with sharp scissors) and your own sewing machine would be a good idea if you have one – there’s nothing like having the opportunity to use your very own machine. Ruth can give you advice on how to clean it and keep it in tip top condition too – as she has a certificate in repairing and servicing sewing machines.
You will be using Sashiko needles and thread and the fabric available will be off-cuts leftover from Ruth’s production of garments as well as an assortment of pre-loved fabrics.
Maximum 2 people – one off workshop fee £75. Duration 3 hours. Contact me directly to arrange a time that suits.
There will be tea, coffee and biscuits available.
