You can see a short video about ROOBEDO and my creative process here >>
Sewing since a child, it was an easy career choice to pursue my love of textiles. Graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles in 1993 I have worked in many areas of the Scottish Clothing Industry and latterly, as a designer/maker, I have run my own label Roobedo for over 25 years. I now mainly teach sewing skills and pattern cutting through freelance workshops and am a part-time lecturer in the Textiles department at Dundee and Angus College. I often say “I do what I teach and teach what I do”. It goes full circle – and over the last few years, my inner voice keeps calling for me to find more purpose than simply making beautiful things to sell. There has to be more of a reason. My core ethics of thrift, minimizing waste and slow fashion now shape the paramount purpose for my future in textiles. What I made had to be from sustainable fabrics, ethically sourced but since 2024 I have stopped making to sell but I still run sewing classes to share how to make Roobedo products and other creations.
