Rowan berries on the road…everywhere signs of nature fast moving from Autumn into Winter. It’s a beautiful time in Highland Perthshire. The forest and hills blaze bright as the leaves turn yellow, red and gold. Time to embrace the changing seasons, stride out and collect seed heads, listen for the return of the geese, wrap up in a woolly hat. Then ‘coorie’ in with a hot cup of tea and think about cleaning the chimney – almost ready to light the first evening fire of the year now that the clocks have changed.
In this world of uncertainty, with social isolation, it’s worth taking time to discover little gems that you can truly connect with. Choosing local where possible and supporting small businesses is so important and good for the soul. The internet has enabled us to connect globally, which we’ve needed more than ever this year, and I like to support independent makers with transparency and provenance at their core. I’ve invested recently in a piece of knitwear from Verisimilitude – where the Flotsam Collection is inspired by life along the shoreline (made by hand, using single source Iona wool on the Isle of Lewis). It perfectly resonates with my love of the Hebrides and coordinates perfectly with my Roobedo original slax and ankle sweeping Fada skirt.

I am constantly amazed how people from all over the world find me and invest in my work on the web – orders for my Morning Robes (as they are called in Japan), Housecoats (in Canada) or Dressing Gowns (in the UK) come in at a steady pace at this time of year. Made from 100% Harris Tweed, they keep chills at bay – especially this year whilst you quite likely work from home! Place you order now for delivery by Christmas – dark charcoal is a favourite, but you can order up almost any colour and choose the feature yarn to make this a truly individual and special purchase. I just love this photo shared with kind permission by a happy Roobedo customer, in Japan – cosy !
Hand stitching each pocket takes me about 30 mins – one of my favourite tasks.
Sometimes it is hard to find what you’re looking for, but you can explore a carefully curated list of professional textile makers here>>CLOTH ONLINE – the perfect source for a treat or gift for that certain someone at any time of the year, and of course, there’s lots to see right here, at my Roobedo shop too!

Stay safe, stay warm.
Best wishes,
Ruth
